Stephanie Vaughan Houston, Texas
~Brief
history~
A
native Texan of Cajun and German decent with the providence for travel to
the Florida Keys, the Bahamian Out Islands, Puerto Rico and the Virgin
Islands by sailboat to settle back in Houston
Having
my beautiful daughter, Jessica, brought about a discovery of my talents
as an artist. It was relaxing and
therapeutic to walk the beaches of our island home and collect driftwood,
sea glass, all sorts of trash and interesting things that would wash up
on the white sandy beaches and create wharf scenes with great detail -
they all had a name pertaining to the feel of the scene. I got many commissions and felt a warm
reception from the local artists in the Abaco art community for my
efforts in recycling.
~Presently~
Through
the love and support of my life partner, my oldest daughter and the home
birth of our newest daughter, I have found inspiration and confidence to
believe in my intuition and trust in the process. Thus, I started having visions I had
to bring to fruition. From
struggles with social awareness, shared growth and the personal evolution
I know will continue throughout my life, I try to form these expressions
with art.
There
is something about glass that draws me to it. Maybe it is the sand that glass is made from and the history
inevitably locked into it. It
exudes so much energy in the window commingling with the sun or even
hanging on the wall. I feel I can
create a window anywhere that can give a clear view, a fuzzy view or an
altered view or whatever kind of view I am in the mood for.
The
wire enhances the mood even more and can represent what is actually going
on, which is sometimes chaos, sometimes peace, sometimes...life. If you think about it, there are so
many things that are going on in your mind when you see something,
whether it is an object or an existential happening that catches your
attention. This is what I am
trying to express by using different forms of glass, different types of
paint and precise processes of combining them together.
